tough toys for puppies

I have been trying to find some durable toys for Rocky. He is 15 weeks old. Lucky for me he only chews on his toys but they don't last long. The only things that have lasted are his puppy kong and tennis ball (but only after he shredded the outter layer). Anyone know of any good durable chew toys for a young pup?

Well instead of a tennis ball, you can get some hand balls or lacrosse balls. The fuzzy layer on a tennis ball is actually really bad for their teeth as it scratches their teeth, almost like they're chewing on steel wool.

I love giving my guys bully sticks, not really durable in the sense that they'll last forever, but keeps the pups busy for a good amount of time. It's also helped keep their teeth pretty clean and the vets are surprised with the lack of tartar build up on my guys teeth.
  • Sakura has an air kong football she has had since she was 10 weeks old (now 1 year 1 month) we just bought a disposable razor and shaved all the yellow fuzz off. It is the only toy still intact

Kong rubber toys are very durable. Also, since he's 15 weeks you might consider the aspect of him teething. Rope chew toys are awesome at this age, as are frozen washcloths. You can also use deer antlers as durable chew toys for your pup too.

@Calia Are there any differences between a regular tennis balls and the ones they sell for dogs? I have the doggie ones and wonder if those effect their teeth.

@dorapoch, I haven't seen much of a difference between normal and pet versions of tennis balls, aside for the colors. Being that my guys like to pull off and eat the fuzz either way, I've opted to stick with handballs.

Ryu tore up the doggy tennis ball we first got him, but the regular tennis balls are much harder to tear up. Our tennis ball has lasted for a few months now.

Looks like I'll be shaving Nobi's tennis ball.

I didn't know how bad it was for him. He also has foamy stress balls I get from conventions, but I watch him carefully when he plays with them. So far, he's just left puncture marks.

I have a Kong Extreme Toy and Kong Extreme Ball on the way, along with his treat bag, slicker brush and ZoomGroom. I'm just not sure if I got the right size. (Medium) I'll see how it goes and write about it.

There's also bully sticks and cow hooves as suggested. The cow hooves last a long time, but I always end up giving Nobi dental chews after each time he chews on it.

I was told that the difference between the regular tennis balls and one made for dogs is the safety of their teeth. The human tennis balls scratches their tooth enamel. While the ones made for dogs doesn't. I'm not 100% sure if its true but when I bought the kong one, thats what the rep told me. They noted the wearing of the teeth is not at a concerning level, i still got the kong balls. Better safe than sorry! Also I think it says it on the description on the Kong Tennis balls.

I don't know if anyone else has had this issue, but I bought Marou a 6in bully stick and he had it chewed and eaten in less than 10mins...

The best toy I have bought was a Kong bone, it has lasted 4 months so far and it still looks on.great shape! Marou's favorite toy is a frisbee and it keeps him super busy, but unfortunately they last about 2 weeks with him...so, I bought a crate of 30, Lol.

Oh, Zim tosses toys for himself too! That's great that Marou does it with the frisbee.
