Today is Puppy Mill Awareness day. I thought this particularly important for us Shiba lovers, given how often our beloved breed is showing up in mills these days.
They do have an "adoption is the only option" slant (or at least they have that slogan on their fliers) but I thought there was some useful info. on the page as well. Especially, look at this link which talks about another big puppy mill area in Ohio: http://www.holmescountyexposed.com/08/
There are really good breeders out there, and it is important that we keep educating people about why they need to support responsible breeders and make sure we don't support puppy mills. Often I've focused on the cost of puppy mill pups--how unhealthy they can be, and how much that can cost. I figure talking to people about money gets their attention. But the real issue is, do you want to support people who view animals as a product only, and let dogs suffer and exist in misery so people can buy cheap (or sometimes not cheap!) puppies? I know I don't.
