    I used to be under the impression that micro chipping a dog would act as a GPS service, but I guess I was wrong.

    Is there a reason why the chips they put in dogs cannot be programmed for such functionality?

    They make special collar attachments for it though...I just stumbled upon this website.

    You need a power source strong enough to send off a signal from the dog to the satellites. The battery life of the product you linked is only about 30 days.
