Shibas on Craigslist
  • @pdlee- I sent an email to Jenna in Omaha. Suggested that she modify her ad. the comment "She would be a great show dog or breeder" might attract BYBs or puppy millers. Gave her links to MSIR and National Shiba Rescue.

Sigh... Trading a Shiba for MAC makeup? Seriously?

    http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bar/3112571218.html

Quiet, but smart 3 year year old Shiba Inu for trade, house broken, understands Chinese.

Here are a list of items that I will consider but may require additional items + money. If you have something that is NOT on this list, you may make a reasonable offer:

    -MAC Makeup (must be new)
    -George Foreman Grill (Deluxe size)
-Kaskade ticket to Bill Graham in SF
    -Samurai sword
    -Movie tickets/gift card
-New Era baseball hats (no Dodgers hats, please)

I am selling my young Shiba Inu. he is one of the sweetest things that you will ever encounter. He has no sign of aggression at all. He is cage trained, leash trained and poddy trained. He is great with kids of all ages. He loves to sit next to you for hours if you want. He is a pure breed Shiba Inu. Akc registered, has all of his shots so far. Comes with all his papers and his ancestry. He comes with 30 pounds of food, 5 pounds of treats, a big cage for which he sleeps in with a mattress. A smaller cage for transportation. A play pen and a extra mattress and much more. I purchased him about a two weeks ago and i need to get rid of him because of school and it isn't the right time to have a dog.

    Meg/5Years/Red & Cream/Shiba Inu/Okinawan Mix

Due to an immediate change for my pet's living situation, I have no other options but to find her a good and loving *and permanent* home- rather than to have her taken to a shelter. Serious inquiries only.

I agree. And the best thing we can do is ignore them, flag them where applicable, and not unintentionally advertise them and give them greater exposure by reposting them.

For this reason, I think it's best if this thread remains focused mostly on Craigslist dogs that are in need of rehoming under Craigslist's original TOS, which allows rehoming "with a small fee" but not selling, and has a mechanism for removing "sale" listings of animals. eBay Classifieds, unfortunately, does not have such a policy so animals can be bred and sold freely. PetFinder is usually okay too, as they are often already in the care of rescue organizations.

Since we do not allow advertising on other parts of the forum, we really shouldn't be "advertising" for breeders here even if linking with clear disapproval of the practice. If you would like to discuss the responsible/irresponsible breeding practices of a specific breeder, as per forum guidelines, please consider commenting under this thread.

A friend of mine posted this on my Facebook, he's a super handsome long legged little dude! Reminds me of @losech 's Conker. Does someone have a good home for him or know someone who would want him?

I'm considering fostering him until he can either be picked up by a Shiba rescue or anyone from here would like to adopt him. I already have a Kai planned for adoption at the end of the month so I'd only be able to hold on to him for a short period of time before sending him to a rescue group if I did foster him.

We are having to part with our two beautiful, loving Shiba Inus. Simba is a bright, intelligent and loving guy, he was born in Thousand Oaks, CA. Buddy is quieter and a little shy, but also very loving, he was born in Newport Beach. My son and I are moving and it is with much sadness that we realize the properties will not take all four of us. They need a loving home, they love kids and have been with us since they were puppies. Both mean the world to us and we want to know that they will be well looked after and have a great adoptive home for $75. Thank you.

    Born August 2008
    Shiba Inu, purebred.
Female, not fixed, and I haven't bred her yet.
Name is Nimzi, she is a Japanese hunting dog and needs a better home than we can give her.
She is our first dog and feel she needs an owner that can give her more time, and better training.
We are a family of 5 and love her very much, but know she needs more.
Please research the breed. She is like no other dog. Very territorial, not good around other dogs, especially females. We have a cat that she grew up with but like every once in a while they have their fights.
I have 3 children, one 2years old, so she has been around small children her whole life. She is kennel trained. (sleeps in an unlocked kennel)
Here are some of the difficult issues. She loves to run away, and wont come to you until she has satisfied her walk. She does come back home, but its a pain.
She doesn't like to be pushed, pulled, or messed with by the kids. She will growl a little, maybe bark, and there has been one time she snipped. (ONLY one)
She is a drama queen, you will be familiar with the Shiba scream. She only barks when something's up.
I could talk about her forever, it will be very hard for our family to say goodbye.
Please only serious people email me. She is free with all the bells and whistles

Rescue is aware of this female.

I'm sending them my usual "Please consider getting her fixed and asking for a small re-homing fee so as not to make her vulnerable to falling in the wrong hands, and oh by the way, have you talked to her original breeder?" message.

We are rehoming a 3 Adult Female Shiba Inus. They are ALL Registered.

There date of births are as follows: Lady 11.7.2003, Ling 3.29.2002 and Inuri 9.19.2002.

They are very Friendly and do well with kids and other dogs. They are still intact. They are NOT housebroken.

They are use to being outside with a doggie door where they can come in and out on there own. It would not take much to get them housebroken.

Ling and Inuri are use to being together.

There rehoming fee is $40 EACH to make sure they go to a good homes.

    Call with questions.

    913.549.7817

If these names sound familiar, it's because these Shibas were recently up for auction, where apparently they did NOT sell.

If any Shiba Inu Forum member is willing to give these ladies a good retirement home, I will personally help with the "rehoming fee." Please feel free to PM me for details.

If you are an experienced dog owner, have a fenced in back yard, and are looking for a new pet to love, then please contact me for more details. We would prefer to find an owner who is knowledgable about the breed , who can financially support the dog, and needs a dog as a playmate for their current dog. This dog is 9 months old, is very social with others, requires a lot of attention, and is known for its independent (sometimes stubborn nature) breed. Small adoption rehoming fee may be required. Serious inquiries only please.

If interested, there will be several meetings and preferably a home visit. Additionally we would prefer to stay in contact for the first few months to assure that the transition is a smooth one both for the dog and the new owner.

@Bootz, I'm always a little weirded out when Craigslisters use stock photos pulled from elsewhere on the internet (as is the case with the San Rafael one), but other than the photos, that one's not necessarily sounding off other scam alarms. Since they're offering the pair for free and they're fixed, I will recommend the Nat'l Rescue courtesy listings and to contact Red Young/NorCal Shiba Rescue.

These two have been on the Oklahoma City Craigslist for a few days. In another ad they were asking $100 for the cream baby.

    http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/pet/3166244916.html

"Male and female shiba inus. Ten months old prefer they stay together. Please make offer need to rehome them by this weekend. Good with other dogs, unsure about cats. Loves kids and are house and crate trained. Please email if interested with contact number. Thank you"

The cream is a male, the sesame/red is a female. If I could take them even for a little bit to foster them, I would, but our landlord won't allow it. :(

Fort Lee ad was "flagged for removal" when I checked. Sometimes that happens pretty quickly, which is why I always copy and paste the text. The anonymized Craigslist e-mail won't work anymore if the ad is gone. If there are actual e-mails or phone numbers in the ad, I edit those out of this forum posting after the ad has been deleted or expired, unless a "known" or commercial breeder whose phone number can be cross-listed across numerous breeds, etc.

@IheartShibas, I suspect people like that might be animal flippers. They collect young, cheap puppies or purebreds (perhaps from Craigslist), then resell for a profit. The ad usually includes pithy, generic reasons for rehoming (moving, landlord, baby are common scapegoats). The rehoming fee that she is asking for is on the high side, which is another indication (though certainly not a guarantee).

All the more reason that CL is often NOT a good venue to rehome dogs, especially if the original owner does not follow up, conduct a home check, etc. But again, I trust the forum members more than the average CL reader, and if anyone here can intercept, all the better.

Animal flippers...horrible people! I remember when I wanted a Yorkie (back when I thought BYB were ok). Found one on craigslist I wanted, owner requested an "essay" on why I would be suitable for her Yorkie. She ends up selling it to another person, WHO TRIES TO RE-SELL IT TO ME. I sent both upset e-mails, and didn't hear back from either.
