Well that's interesting. Then maybe it's a scam, or the person just didn't have a digital picture of their own dog available.

I have a red shiba for adoption who just turned one year old. He is super sweet, intelligent, and just needs someone with the time and energy to give him the stimulation he needs. You can see more pictures at

I'd include all his stuff (crate, playpen, toys, bungee leash, car carrier, etc) and am asking an adoption fee: If for any reason you were unable to keep him, I'd take him back and return your fee. This is just so I have some peace of mind about his future. Let me know if you're interested; I live in south Philly.

e-mailed and suggested MASR, also referred him to this ad:
Call me crazy, but I don't think it'd be that strange for two shibas to wander 3 hours away over the course of several days...
EDIT: poster contacted the ad-poster in Scranton; they'd already found their 2 missing dogs.

These guys were found as strays with out i/d, and no one is responding to my adds, flyeres, and reports. They are great dogs house good with cats, dogs, and small children The younger one is about 1-3 years old, male neutered. Very friendly.
The second one is 3-6 years old, male neutered a little shy at first but a good listner and sweet.
A rehoming fee will apply, to weed out poor candidates. Don't bother if your existing pets are not up to date with vacinations, not spayed or neutered, or have if you had surrended a pet before.
I'd like them to stay together, they are very bonded. They need a secured fenced in yard.

I am looking for a good home for my beautiful 8 year old Female Shiba Inu.
I thought I had found a good home, but it didn't work out, so I apologize if you had replied to my ad before & didnt receive a reply...
She is an amazing dog, but I went through a break up, am single and work 2 jobs, and it has been unfair for me to keep her alone so long each day that I have decided to find a good home for her.

She is spayed, and up to date on all her shots (just vaccinated in November and I have all papers with her up to date shots)

She is house broken, Does not bark, and LOVES People, is Phenomenal with children & meeting new people. She is also good with cats...BUT, she gets jealous when there is another dog in the household, so I'm looking for a home without a dog currently...

She is approx. 20 lbs, and absolutely beautiful.,and this breed has a life span of usually 16-18 yrs, so she has many good years ahead of her...
Also, a home with a fenced in yard would be ideal, as this breed usually needs to be on a leash at All Times when outside, since they are typically bred for hunting & tracking, and tend to pick up scents and try to follow them...
    Attached are her pictures....

Please email me if interested, or with any questions...

It kills me to do this, but I know it is best for her...

Very sweet, playful and friendly Shiba Inu, named Adachi. Her birthday is 06/24/09 and is about 17lbs. She is sesame in color. She needs a new home because I no longer have the time to take care of her. She was socialized young and gets along well with other dogs. A foster family will also be considered. An adoption fee is required for permanent placement.

We have 3 little kids who is good with but he is getting stressed by them and they are getting stressed by him. He is house trained and crate trained.. I think that he would do well in a home that doesnt have kids and someone could run or walk him daily. He is mellow when inside. thanks so much

Hello, I can no longer take care of my awesome dog Koz. It pains me to give him up, but I know there is someone who can give him the love and attention he deserves. He is 35 pounds and is spoiled rotten, he like going for walk and loves to beg for food. He is fiercely loyal and will be a great companion. Hes kind of a wuss when you first meet him, but he really loves people, hes just a wee bit skittish.

Anyways I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you.

The two shibas "Nottingham, near Baltimore, MD" have been reunited with their owners. The person posting finally emailed me this week with pictures and I filled out a coutesy listing. She told me she could only keep them one week and did a new craigslist ad saying how rescue was of no help. I had found a potential adopter, but they would only take 1, but a sister may take the other, when suddenly the owners claimed them.

I have a 5 year old neutered Shiba Inu that I need to rehome. He is great with people but he doesnt get along well with other male dogs (a common trait with the breed) He would do best in a one dog house hold with no young children, another breed trait, he doesnt like being pulled and poked. I would prefer he go to a home where someone is home during the day, he isnt use to being alone for long periods of time and he is never crated. I have all his vet records since he was a puppy and he is micro chipped. He is very mellow and well behaved. Please email me for more info, you will be required to sign a contract saying that if for any reason you cant keep him you will return him to me, I dont want him to end up in the pound. $75 rehoming fee [phone 760XXXXX10 from another ad]

I have a 15 month old red shiba that needs a good home. We would like for him to go to a home that has another dog for him to play with and an owner that can be there with him a lot or can bring him to work. He is a very sweet natured dog and loves all other people/dogs/kids. He can be destructive when bored or left unsupervised. He has been to obediance classes and is house broken, up to date on all shots, fixed, microchipped, and crate trained. Asking $200 for a rehoming fee as he comes with his cage, bed, collar and leash, and all current shots and his purebread papers. Call Charlie at XXX-XXX-6045 if your interested.

Do to a weird work schedule we no longer have the time for her that she deserves. Would prefer she goes to a home with a kid that needs a buddy. If you would like to know anything else about Sandy just let me know. Can also provide more pictures if you are interested. Will need to go to a home that is fenced in or she will need chained when let out. She likes to take off and play catch me when given the chance.

I have the cutest little guy named Yuji. (Yuji is Japanese for "Brave, Second Son.") We named him this because he became our second, male Shiba Inu in our household.

Yuji is 1 1/2 years old and very much still PUPPY! He is about 20 lbs. and is full-grown. He might get a little thicker but not much.

I have two other dogs in my home, and my other Shiba is 10 years old. Yuji and he are two dominant males who constantly fight/try to intimidate the other due to male dominance.

I want to find Yuji a home where he will be the only pet in the home.

I prefer a very loving family, with no young children, since he likes to play-bite still.

I need a good owner who will be consistent with discipline, since this is what he needs.

Yuji is potty-trained, and knows how to sit and lay down on command.

I've come to love him so much, but due to the constant fighting between my two Shiba's, and that I am going through a divorce, I feel he needs someone who can devote all their love and time to him.

Yuji LOVES to cuddle and give kisses. He is very sweet.

There is an adoption fee. Please email for questions. Thank you!

A pox on people who do things like this. Hope those dogs find a better home.

I recently found an ad on Craigslist... I posted about it here in another thread.... I was so distraught by the lack of effort the person put into the ad.. They didn't seem to even be trying to find a good home, and they didn't say ANYTHING about the personality of the dog or even mention his name. It was like they were trying to get rid of him as soon as they could :(

    AD Here if you're interested:

Anyways, I messaged the owner and let them know about the idea of contacting their breeder (he never messaged me back..) Then I also contacted my breeder to make him aware of the situation.. He said that he would pass around the link to other breeders he knows in the area to see if any of them sold the dog/to see if the actual breeder was informed that the dog was being sold. I live in Ottawa, Ontario and there aren't many Shiba Breeders in the area.....

The whole situation just makes me feel sad for the sweet dog... he's only 10 months.

Lilly is a pure bred Shiba Inu spayed female. She is up to date on her shots and have vet papers to prove it. She is approximately 3 years old and totally out of the puppy stage. She does not bark, does not chew *unless it is a bone or her toys* does not go potty in the house, and is excellent around children and other cats and dogs. She is a snuggler and at 30lbs, she is not to big and not to small. She comes with everything that you would need, so you won't have to buy anything right away. She has her own kennel, dog bowl, brush, nail trimmer, food, treats, leash, collar, toys, and treat container. There is a rehoming fee of $80. Please e-mail for pictures or to set up a time to meet her :) Thanks!

Bailey is a purebred male Shiba Inu who is 4.5 years old. He is a good dog who has been neutered, because I never intended to breed him, but rather wanted him as a pet. I am looking to find a good home for him. Some things worth noting about Bailey:

    - He spends the days during the week outside primarily, but always sleeps inside and is inside during the weekend. So I would say he is an indoors dog, but he likes being outside as well.
    - He is as active as you want to be. He is content to relax near you, but if you want to play, he will be eager to play or go for a walk.
    - He doesn't want to be bothered by children. He isn't aggressive, but would prefer to not have children follow him.

To make sure he finds a good home, I am requiring a small rehoming fee of $100. I am by no means doing this to make money, as you can see what the cost of a Shiba Inu is, coupled with all of the trips to the vet for shots, vaccines, and getting neutered. I just want to make sure he gets a nice new home. I am also including some items that will ease the concern about this rehoming fee as well, including:

    - Metal crate
    - Dog carrier
    - Bed
    - Furminator
    - Other toys and misc. dog needs

Please contact me if you are interested in welcoming Bailey to your home!

I just emailed to NJ apps about Daisy. Add to these all the ones rescue is getting contacted about. I had two this week and so far they haven't even bothered to fill out the surrender form so I can courtesy list.
  • Casey, so glad to hear it!

Bailey's poster sounded like a conscientious person who was really trying to find him a good home. Here's wishing him a safe journey.

You guys are very organized with your transport runs on the East Coast. I haven't seen as many calls for transport help on the West Coast. Not saying we don't have shibas in need, it just seems to be organized more loosely on this side of the Mississippi?

Shiba Scout Rescue must be busy with all these listings in Colorado (not just from this latest batch -- I notice a bunch from CO, generally speaking). I wonder where they're all coming from?

Thank you for the help, Judy.

The one that really gets me this time is Jojo in WI. I e-mailed suggesting MSIR, but not sure what their situation is there...

    You can also suggest SIRA:

NYCSR is VERY organized. They just moved two other shibas up from NC a few weeks ago, along with 2 other shibas coming in the same weekend. The last count, they have 11 shibas in foster care.

Yeah, I am very concerned about the amount of Shiba rescues coming from NC. I just about had a heart attack when there was a call for a Shiba in VA. (That was Rudy, bless his beautiful soul) I hate that all of the Shibas are coming from fairly close by. It absolutely breaks my heart. I do everything I can to help in these situations, but lately, with my schedule, it has been hard. Luckily, I will have the weekend off from class for the transport for Bailey and can help with that. As it turns out, he may even be an overnight boarder with Bella and Nola (oh dear god, that should be interesting).

So for all of you guys out there that read these and think there is nothing you can do... Get in touch with these posters. Teach them about rescue organizations. Offer your time to rescue organizations for transport, fostering, etc. I know that I am stressed for time and money and I can not accept fosters right now. However, I can help with transports on the weekends I am free from class. I can help spread the word for transports and foster needs when I am busy. It only takes a few minutes to contact several hundred people on Facebook or email lists, etc. Do what you can to help these poor dogs who through no fault of their own are finding themselves homeless and starved for attention. It only takes a minute of your time. And you never know, you could very well save the life of a Shiba.

  • I have haunted this topic from time to time. While I can't foster because me and my husband are in the process of Portland OR and my APT complex has a limit of two pets per apt. I can get the word out do these guys can find homes. I can try to talk to some rescues here in AL so these guys can have some place to go. If you need my email address I will PM it to you all you have to do is ask.

EDIT: already emailed K911 they are a good rescue here in AL. The take all sorts of dogs that are unwanted. I know Alabama is a long way but I figured if push comes to shove that being here would be better than being homeless.

I have a handsom young shiba inu in need of rehoming. He's knows basic training, whines when he needs to go out, sits for treats ect.
He loves to cuddle and play! He makes for a really great friend.

I may charge a small rehoming fee. His new parents will walk away with a big crate, a leash, lots of toys and whatevers left of his food.

If you believe hitting is proper enforcement do not even bother to reply.

AAAAARG! This is in my town! There's no picture of the little guy so there's no way to tell what he looks like or if he's a mix but I really want to contact the owner. HOWEVER, I live in my Mom's house and I highly doubt she's let me bring a second Shiba into her house. Urgh, I feel like I'm going to explode!

Does anyone know of any Oregon Shiba rescues I could at least refer this person to if they don't find a good home for their Shiba?

Losech, you can refer this person to Northwest Shibas 4 Life:

If you're willing and able, maybe you can just meet up with this person? Share stories, training tips, find out why they're trying to rehome the dog. Sometimes people offer reasons like they've just moved and the dog isn't adjusting well to the change, or their job changed, or there's some behavioral issue that they "just don't have the time" to deal with... as if these things never happened to other owners, too. Chatting with others who have been through it might change their minds, or give them inspiration to keep trying.

Which is why I sometimes refer people to this board, if it at all sounds like they *might* be open to suggestions.

It's sort of a "mission," and not even saying that some random Craigslist person wants to be someone else's "project," but it's something to consider...

I went ahead and sent them an e-mail. I still don't know if I can take him in but I mentioned that I could probably foster him if they can't find a good home. I also mentioned placing him with a rescue. I hope the owner is a nice person and doesn't get angry at me for suggesting that. I also told them about my own Shiba, so hopefully they'll realize I'm just trying to help.

We are unable to keep this dog so we are going to give her away FREE to the Right and PROPER home. She is a purbreed with papers. Look this dog up on the web. She fits the decription perfectly. Here are 2 of their traits: They are masters of escape and they dont get along with smaller animals. We have 2 smaller dogs and she intimatates them. She doesnt bite, just intimitate. If you leave your door ajar, she will bolt. That is just in their breed. That is why we have to give her away. Other than that, she is Great dog. They have to have room to run so a fenced in yard is a must. If your yard is not fenced in, don't bother answering this add. The previous owners kept her on a chain, and for this kind of dog, that is cruel. She needs a good home and we are not just going to give her away to the first person who answers this ad. Like I said, look up this breed on the web before you call for more info.
Thanx Call in the evenings XXX 2624
Very good dog, but very other male dog aggressive. He is also food aggressive but he seems to be good with female dogs ( unless there is food present). He is VERY VERY friendly and loves people and grew up with kids. We just cant have him anymore he wont stop fighting with our male dog. He is PURE BRED and not fixed, but should probably be fixed soon, it might help with the aggression. His adoption is just 50 to a good home, we just want a good family for him.

Hi I have a 6yr old female Shiba Inu that I am looking to re-home. I have recently gone through a divorce and now am going through a foreclosure. I was notified today that I have to vacate my home soon. I am looking for a good home that loves animals in general and is looking for a companion. Jubilee (as we named her) was brought home when she was 4 mos old and has been a part of my family since. She is full breed and I have Certificate of Pedigree on her. She has the microchip also. She is great with kids and other animals. In all honesty she reminds me of a scaredy cat (lol). She loves to go for walks and fetch ball (that is her favorite). I am asking a rehoming fee. If you are interested and would like to see her please contact me via email or cellphone XXX-XXX-7794.

I am looking for a good, forever home for my Shiba Inu puppy. Her name is Saki and she is almost 9months old. She is micro-chipped and spayed. I work very long days and unfortunately am not here to give her the attention and love that she needs. She does need training as she is VERY wild at heart. She does have issues with Bilious Vomitting and requires a pill before each meal but otherwise is a very happy little lady. I ask that only people with prior or current Shiba experience respond to this ad. I am asking for a $150.00 rehoming fee to ensure that Saki is going to a forever home. Please contact me with any questions.

We have a beautiful 6-year-old Shiba Inu, "Rocky", that needs a loving home. He has been neutered.

He is very loyal to a friendly owner.
He is definitely an "indoor" doggie, and would be better off being the only male dog in the home.

If interested, let us know - our housing situation prevents us from keeping a dog, but we don't want to send him to a shelter.

3 year old male red sesame Shiba Inu. "Reggie" is a sweet, sweet boy, but he does have the "typical" Shiba trait of being a little shy with strangers, but once he gets to know someone he is fine and is a very loving little boy and he loves to play. He is crate trained, would need some work on housetraining but does good inside, gets along fine with cats and female dogs but does not do well with other male dogs (another Shiba trait) and is fine around children. He is not aggressive towards people at all, you can take anything away from him, food, toys, bones etc. He would make a great jogging partner or couch potato, he is small about 15" and 20 pounds so would be an ideal "apartment" dog. He is neutered, current on shots, worming and is micro-chipped. Re-Homing Fee Applies

We rescued this Shiba about two years ago. She is very shy and barks at strangers but once you are around her she will warm up. Her favorite thing is cheese and will go anywhere for cheese. We love her but no matter what we do she is relentless on bolting. She is smart and finds her way home but she is dumb when she is loose....runs in front of cars etc. I can't take the stress anymore. Please do not send me emails on solutions because we have tried them all just if someone had a large property that could let her "run free" is where she would be happy. She is very pretty and pics don't show her true colors, loves to be loved and is good with other dogs and completely housebroken and fixed,we would take her camping and she would stay with the "pack" of dogs in the group, not sure about cats or other small animals. She does not chew on furniture but will jump up on your bed due to my daughter letting her sleep with her. She has a double coat which means she sheds heavy to blow her winter coat. She will need her yearly shot and a rabies booster. $100.00 rehoming fee

Looking for the right homes for our adult Shibas. We have a red/sesame female, 4 years old, not spayed yet so she will need to be, microchipped, potty trained, gold eyes. Male red, 4 years old, neutered, microchipped, potty trained. Female black and white, 4 years old, microchipped, spayed, very shy so needs a special home. We would like the red male and red/sesame female to stay together if possible since they love each other like a married couple :) but may separate if the right situation arises. We will require that anyone agrees to return the dogs back to us if they can no longer keep them. We are only re-homing them because family has moved in and there are too many dogs here now for these babies to get the attention they deserve. This is very difficult for us but we just want them spoiled and not sharing love with so many others. Call, email, or text XXX-XXX-9913

Male Shiba, about 2 years old.Autistic bro - in law moving in, and is scared of doggies. He is an extremely laid back, loveable dog.Not standoffish like some of his breed can be. .He gets along great with cats and other dogs..Comes with Crate, Cage, 2 collars, leashes, a basket of toys, and a lot of love.GOOD home only, serious inquiries only. .Chipped and has his shots.VERY sad to see him go,as he is such a good dog. Only the right offer will get him, he's a doll..Once again..GOOD home only.Willing to trade/barter within reason for items as well.I need garden stones, for example. What do you have to trade?

This ad is listed in Akron, Oh but when I got a reply she is in Ny which is 9 hrs from me. I did send a follow up e-mail about NYC Shiba Rescue.

Here is the response I received when asking if they were still available and how old?

Thanks for your interest in adopting this my lovely puppies from me. They are still available and very sorry for getting back to you this late OK,they are by name call (CEMA AND JADE) and 12 weeks old each. i am just so concerned about their welfare and hope you can assure me of that. They are home raised, potty trained and well socialized and gets along perfectly with children and other pets.CEMA and JADE are pure breed puppies and A KC registered. They are updated on all their shots and comes with a year health guarantee. They love to be carried around and cuddled and full of caressing and kisses. They come alongside the following
    - A year health guarantee
    -A KC registration papers
    -Pedigree papers
    -An air conditioned crate
    -Vet record -Food samples
-Puppy toys I am giving them out for adoption because of my newly acquired Job as a Nurse which demands a lot of my time and entails a lot of traveling. As such, i have little or no time to spend with them. They are really in need of a home where they will be provided with all the love, care and attention they are being deprived of here.I am currently on a 5 months assignment in CHESTERTOWN,NY with a private Cancer Patient and i work with the Swedish Medical Center in Chestertown which is the more reason i am giving them out, but if you can afford the cost of shipping to your location which will cost you just $600 for both and $300 for one with delivery inclusive then i will help register them for shipping over to you. i will be happy if you will give my lovely babies a nice and for ever home..however, i can have them shipped to you if you can assure me that you will take proper care of them by answering to the below questions and providing me with the following
    Your Phone Numbers.............................?
Have you ever had a puppy before......?
Do you promise to take proper care of them............?
To provide pictures so i see how they is doing.........?
    What state are you located.................?
Do you want both or just one ?
    male or female ?
Do you think you can provide a good home for them.

I will post if I get a response about the rescue recommendation.

yea when I asked for more info and pics he sent me them but put down that the males name was different not to mention that their is no way the pic can be of a 14week old shiba more like 4-6 week. So now their are Three pups but one pic was of 3-4month old but the other two were younger looking. I am going to notify the site it is listed on.

    Update: they removed the listing.

Yeah, I wish I could find the site where that exact same template was linked, but I can't find it right now. Here are a couple links that basically describe what I'm referring to:

You learn to spot them a mile away from a combination of signs (note that I'm not saying any single one of these is enough to call an ad a scam!)

    * broken / improper English
    * An unverified story or identity for the seller that sounds good, but can't be corroborated (i.e. nurse, missionary, educator, etc.)
    * FREE, FREE, FREE... you just pay hundreds of dollars in shipping. Paid directly to the seller. By Western Union. To some overseas account. Ha, sure. Actually, I'm not convinced all these scams have to originate in Africa. The other one that came to mind where I saw this same questionnaire was asking for funds to be transferred to a US account. But that's another tip...
    * Seller gives appearance of being concerned about the well-being of their puppies by offering a questionnaire, but cannot answer your specific questions about their pup (i.e. breeder, registered name of pets, registration #s, vet references, etc.)

This should probably be a post of its own, but yes, when you're dealing with Craigslist and other online listings, you'll eventually come across scams, too. Keep your wits about ya, folks.

Need to rehome our shiba's. We have had many people say that want to take them and fall thru. We need to rehome them because we do not have the space for them. We have a good size home but not the yard space. We just had to move and they are not happy. I am not going to keep them and make them unhappy just to keep myself happy. Ok, they can not go to a home with another dog they are both dog agressive. We have a female and male and they can go to seperate homes.

They are by no means aggressive towards cats or people. They have never ever tried to even nip at anyone. They have been around kids that pull at them and they are wonderful with them. Hate to see them go. We are not asking for a re homing fee. We are asking for the people to take them to bring them to the vet. They both need their rabies shot this month and need their flea meds and that is it. They have been to the vet and had their vet visits and such. They are healthy, they have been up to date on shots they just need them now. If you can not pay to bring them to get their shots you can not affor them.

They are both 8 years old. Please do not email me with rediculous questions. If you email me with a question that I have answered in this posting then I am not responding to you. If you can not read my posting you can not take care of this dog. Please read up on Shiba Inu's before asking me for them as well. These dogs are not typical to the breed but something they do have in common. They are much friendlier but there activity levels and such are the same. Please email me with questions and do not email me unless you are really looking to take them please. Thank you

Ok i'm trying Craigslist one last time. I've been trying to find a home for a pure bred female 3 yr old Shiba Inu. However, I get too many non serious responders. I'd rather not re-home her but there is major conflicts w/ my other female shiba and her, and its not good for her to be in that situation. There is a re-homing fee, that could be considered minuscule for this breed, especially since her rabies shot is good untill 2013. I only want serious responders, and she needs to go to a decent neighborhood, and NO CATS ARE ALLOWED!!! My email is, but it'd be better to text me at XXX-XXX-4914.

This one hurts, because they look like such a sweet couple, and the Shiba is a senior... the Chi even looks like a Chi-Basenji mix. Emailed to suggest listing at nat'l shiba rescue courtesy listings.

I am looking to rehome our Shiba Inu. We have had her for about a month now and it is just not working out. She needs to be in a home w/o any other dogs or small children. She is aggressive towards other dogs, but is not aggressive to small children, she just prefers not to be around them. She is an excellent watchdog and very protective of her home. Other than her not liking other dogs and small children, she is a great dog and will make someone a great companion. If you are interested and would like to know more about her, please feel free to contact me through Craigslist. PLEASE NO SPAM AND ONLY E-MAIL IF YOU ARE TRULY INTERESTED!!

I have a new job now and have little or no time to devote to my loving shiba. I would like to see him go to a home where he can have more attention. He is 1 year old, black andtan, is neutered and up to date on all shots. Please email if interested.

Sorry no pic- but imagine an Akita only smaller.
Full bred- no papers, about 16 pounds, approximately 3 years old, female, spayed, up to date on shots, dewormed, negative for heartworms, Sometimes playful, pretty calm, loves to give kisses. She is learning basic commands, but isn't yet consistent. House trained, she only has accidents when left home alone for long periods of time. She is harness and leash trained.
She is good with kids ( mine are school age) and even with babies/ toddlers the few times she's been around them.

The previous owner insisted she was good with cats and thats true while leashed, but give her free run of the house and she'll hunt them. She will try to escape if confined to a crate or room or leashed by whatever means necessary. She loves having the run of the house and does well with that. But that means I have to confine the cat who we've had for several years. I'm not willing to do that long term and would like to find her a home that is better suited to her needs. If that's you please give me a call xXX-XXX-3709. There is a rehome fee of 150 to cover the medical expenses, but I'm willing to negotiate.

  • What makes me so sad about craigslist is people who are moving to an apartment that doesn't allow dogs. In my opinion, you should be seeking a place to live that allows dogs. Its unfair to your pet to put them second rate.Benny Bear. Shiba Inu year and a half old living in Tempe, AZ

Same here, Samaasen. I'm in the middle of a move right now and finding my apartment was a bit of a hassle because I have a cat (and reptiles) so at minimum it needed to be cat friendly.

I don't even have a dog yet, but was also ruling out "no dogs" apartments because I knew I wanted to get one.

I guess it's difficult if there's really short notice or an eviction or something, but I took the time and managed to find a nice apartment in a nice neighborhood with a very nice landlady, who allows pets (with a $200 refundable deposit per pet, pre-approval required, and no additional monthly fee). There's the typical "banned breeds", so I could see it being a much more difficult process for pit bull, doberman, rottweiler, or even Akita owners, but Shibas are small and not on any restricted breed lists I've seen (I made sure to research that for my area/renter's insurance as well).

I will say that in some cites like New York City, finding housing that will take a dog is very hard, and if on short notice near impossible. Much of the affordable housing (except for public housing which has a six year waiting list) isn't really pet friendly, and the ones that are require a full month's deposit. When I was helping someone find a place, we came across so many contracts that banned dogs. Some of the few we found only allowed dogs ten pounds and under, with some allowing 30 pounds (which is fine for a shiba). When asked why animals were not allowed the most common answer I received was that they didn't like animals, or that in the past they had to pay for damages. In an ideal world people would have time to search for housing, but some people run out of time quicker then they can prepare for. Its not exactly fair to look down on people in these situations. I've seen grown men cry over having to give up a dog when faced with this situation, so its not fair to say they didn't try. I faced a similar situation once, and while people like to say they would sleep in a park, that isn't allowed in this city or safe. I was lucky that I had friends willing to watch my dog until the situation blew over, but not everyone is so lucky.

Loving Shiba Inu "Yoshi" looking for a new home (Morganville, NJ)

Yoshi is a 1 1/2 yr old neutered male Shiba Inu. He's a great dog with a wonderful disposition. He understands commands such as sit, stay, "go to your room", etc. Shibas are smart dogs and we request that you only reach out to us if you have done your homework on the breed, because they do come with needs. Yoshi is a wonderful companion, he gets along very well with other dogs and has been socialized at the local dog park frequently. He does like to play rough with larger dogs, trying to exercise dominance; but has never been outright aggressive.

Unfortunately, Yoshi loves attention and with a house full of kids, it's hard to find time for him. He tends to follow us around the house, and could really use a home that can give him more attention than we can. He is generally good with children although he does tend to slip into puppy mode and nips at our youngest sons feet and runs around in circles at play time. Some points: -He's 1 1/2yrs old -Neutered -Current on all shots, heartworm, and flea/tick We are requesting an adoption fee of $50. We also have his crate, toys, flea/tick & heartworm meds, etc etc to sell if you are interested. Considering he is a member of our family and it breaks our hearts to see him go, we are being selective about his new home. Please reach out to us with as much information about his potential new home as possible and we can then set up a time for you to visit him. Thank you, and good luck in your search!

    Sweet Shiba (Belleville, IL)

Who cares? Who will care for my Shiba? He's a very good pup, loves to play and cuddle. Craves constant attention. There will be no other dog like Bailey. We've had him since he was very little, and over the past three years, we've experienced the ups and downs of puppyhood. But now the doctor says it's time to part with Bailey due to an allergic condition. It wasn't as if we experienced it all along, it's something that crept in on us. We've tried prescription medications, over the counter, organic rememdies, and nothing works to combat the itch, the swelling, nothing.

So now, we've come to the difficult decision, the doctor's right. Bailey needs to touch the life of another loving family. We need to find Bailey a home.

Here's the details. Bailey is a male creme-colored Shiba Inu. He's 3 years old (as of May), and up-to-date on all his shots and vaccinations. Bailey is neutered, and at last vet visit was 27 pounds. He's a medium-sized dog. Bailey was raised in a home without any other pets or children. For a brief while, we introduced another Shiba to our home, but she showed aggression towards Bailey so it didn't work out. When children have come to visit, he's very affectionate towards them, but the poor pooch doesn't know his own strength and has been known to knock down a little girl or two. But it's all in good fun.

Bailey does love to play. He'll run. He'll fetch. He can either play alone or with others. But as he was raised in a home of adult owners, it's difficult to say how well he'd be in a home with children or other pets. Based upon our experiences with him, however, he's never shown aggression towards any one person, or dog.

We'd hate to profit on placing Bailey with another family. It just feels wrong. However, we do have a number of things we're requiring stays with Bailey during this transition. Bailey comes with 9 months of heartworm medicine, his "bedroom" (ie: crate), a partially used bag of dog food, his toys, the Furminator brushing tool, and whatever comforting item we can find. We're asking for a $150 rehoming fee to cover some of the cost of all of Bailey's things.

Please be considerate when responding, as this is a difficult decision my we must make as we intend on finding Bailey the best fit for a home.

Thank you for reading. If you feel you and your family foot the bill, please respond.

Shiba Inu Mix Must go by Wednesday!! (Northern Kentucky)

I have a year and a half Shiba Inu mix that I must find a new home for. He is a wonderful caring and loving dog that I have had since October. He is about 25 pounds and is full grown.

However, he does not like my smaller dog and I have to keep them both separated at all times. It isn't fair to either one so I had to make a decision on what was best for them. The ideal home for him would be a home with no other pets or children. Shiba's are not pets that get along well with other animals. He is a very loyal dog.

Please read up on his breed. A small rehoming fee is required to ensure he is going to a good home. I must find somewhere for him ASAP. Please let me know if you have any questions or are interested via the email provided. He is fixed and up to date on all shots.

@inoushi, I know exactly what you are talking about. My building is pet friendly but there is an entire two pages of my lease contract devoted to pet restrictions/violations.

    -no pet over 30 pounds
-no pet who makes excessive noise.
-only one pet may be kept in the apartment
-has to be registered with the city
-a whole list of 20+ dog breeds that are banned from entering the building. Most of these are known to be aggressive or very large breeds.

I think a lot of these rules are to prevent health and safety hazards. Imagine if your 100 pound German Shepard jumped up on an 80 year old lady in the elevator or if you forget to bring a poop bag and a 2 pound poop is laying outside of the building.

Howdy, Stranger!
