I don't feed Merrick, but I know quite a few people do.
And I know more than a few people don't really trust Purina. :(

"Nestlé Purina PetCare Company has signed an agreement to acquire Merrick Pet Care, Inc., one of the fastest-growing natural and organic pet food companies. Upon completion of the transaction, which is expected to close over the next several months, Merrick will continue to operate as an independent business, with no planned changes to its management or operations. Merrick has more than 350 employees located primarily in Texas and Illinois, and offers a wide variety of dry and wet foods, as well as treats, for both dogs and cats. Terms were not disclosed."

OMG I was just considering trying Merrick and have officially changed my mind. I don't trust Purina to not change the formula or ingredients somehow to save money. Thank you for sharing, guess I'll experiment with Fromm and stick with Acana & Orijen.

    I just saw this!
I feed Merrick and really love the brand. I am sad at this decision and will be looking into Fromm and Orijen once this bag runs out.

Argh... While I do not feed Merrick dry food, I do get the canned "meals" for B&N on special occasions. This is a major bummer.

It really irks me that a company that I thought was in it for the love of pets (and obviously to make some money, too) turns out to be a company that is only in it for profits and sells out. :( :( :(

We were using Merrick wet food to supplement our Orijen kibble; so I guess it's just Orijen and Acana now :/ Any other recommendations?

They said they would not change evo or their other foods they have changed the ingredients on EVO I think they added peas or something like that.

They are no just selling EVO and Innova kibble.

Also Natura is now owned by MARS I guess P&G sold it to them.

Victor brand looks decent they are made in Texas and not bad in price no menadoine or dyes or sugar. I plan to try victor next tried a sample and Bella liked it.

Farmina is relatively new here they're based in Italy.. Here's their site to check out the formulas they have their grain free and grain diets are pretty good. I've fed Bella the chicken and grains and cod and grains and she liked both formulas..

Acana, orijen, Fromm. Fromm is based in Wisconsin so far people seem to like that brand. I fed it from time to time long time ago.

For canned food fromm sells canned and also evangers has wide variety of canned food and some dry kibble too. From what people say they are still family owned..

i'm not a fan of purina used to feed beneful to my past dogs and omg that stuff stunk and dogs had horrible poop.

Plus Purina have so many brands and formulas why the need to expand like that! If you want to improve on your foods then work with what you have and make ingredient change.

A lot of negative feedback on their fb page I'm suprised they are not deleting the comments like they do on the purina FB page..

I mean a purina supporter is allowed to bash raw food diet, but forbid a raw feeder post proof that raw is not bad then the comment gets deleted.

Hmmm - The article is interesting, but i find the comments even more interesting. I like seeing why people argue for and against brands based on their research and experience.

I was actually looking into switching the food we give Kiba and Ahri.
Kiba is eating grass and im not sure if it's because he isnt eating enough or because of the food not being good for him...and Ahri is passing gas a lot, but that might be cause of the treats and stuff.

I'd like to try ACANA, Orijen or Fromm but $90 for a 29lb bag does seem like a lot of money heh.

@thomas2388 - Some dogs just like to eat grass. There is not necessarily a nutritional deficit if Kiba likes to munch on grass. He may just really like it.

What are your thoughts our stocking up on Merrick right now. I know most of you are opposed to give money to Purina now it is owns Merrick, but in terms of quality food for the future, what do you think about buy a bunch of Merrick while the formula is the same? or has it already changed?

Why bother delaying the inevitable? They may or may not change the formula but do you really want to stock up on food just to have it spoil and still be stuck having to wean them onto another brand? Just my two cents.
