Travel to Pet Friendly Beach Close to Washington, DC

I looked for threads on this topic and did not find anything. I would like to take my little boy Quake to a pet friendly beach near Washington, DC. I would like to rent a studio or a condo for a few days during the month of October. I understand that some beaches in the area do not allow dogs until after October 1. I do not care to go to any dog parks as Quake does not like other dogs. I just want to be able to be close to a beach where he and I could walk and he would be on-leash. He loves walking in the sand and digging holes and running around. Do any of you close to the area have any ideas? Thanks.
  • I would love to know the answer to this question!

I am planning on taking Otto to Assateague, which is dog-friendly in the MD section, but it's not too close. I love it but I've never been there with a dog, so I want to make sure it's good for him before I go.

@Ottotheshiba-I would also like some recommendations as to where to find dog friendly hotels or condos to rent for a few days.

Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge is where one of my friends takes her many Shibas:

Normally if you rent a private place on the beach then that does not apply to those renters except if it's a condo. We usually rent cabins in and around the Shenandoah River right on the water so Kira can do as she pleases!

@Kira_Kira-thanks for the suggestions and the link.
  • I don't know how links work here but I'll try. Bring Fido has some suggestions, just look up beaches in Maryland, Virginia and Delaware, for example. For some reason I can't get a page for Virginia as a state, but I can check Virginia Beach.

I have been using this website to find things to do, then I go to yelp and try to find reviews. They also have hotels and other stuff.
  • In July, I'm going to the Shenandoah River. We rented a house using and chose a dog-friendly place. We have to pay a fee for having a dog but it's ok.
