Deshka had been scratching under her chin and had some light redness around her eyes; as a process of elimination we went to Holistic Wilderness-Canine Caviar, which is both grain and potato free. After a week the redness around her eyes and the additional scratching were both eliminated. We decided to use treats to determine what she seemed to have an allergy.....as it turned out, it was anything with potato or sweet potato in it. Then after searching further, we discovered most grain free foods have some type of potato. Has anyone else had a shiba with a potato allergy? If so, what food are you using?
Check out this formula of Taste of the Wild:
Southwest Canyon Canine Formula
with Wild Boar
According to the ingredients, it looks like there is no potato at all:
Edit: also, it looks like all of the Nature's Variety Instinct is also potato-free:

that sucks. Potatoes are my favorite!!
I usually push for raw diets if there are allergies.
Aside from what Kira recommend above, there is the Honest Kitchen but its a bit pricey.
Honest kitchen is alllllll potatoes.
When we were doing food trials last year, Kouda also seemed to have improvement when we cut out sweet potatoes. So we also avoid them.
Nature's variety uses tapioca for their starch. We tried this for a while, but ultimately quit kibble (there's gotta be a starch to hold it together, and potato is so common).
We currently feed The Real Meat Company
And Vital Essentials
Raw is really the best if you can get a good source of meat. Being in Alaska, I have no idea what is available.
Edit: a potato-free alternative to Honest Kitchen is Grandma Lucy's Pureformance
I would also browse dogfoodadvisor's 5 star foods for ingredients
