Here a couple of pics of my monsters, Toby (6) and Bel (5). The first one is from when they were still allowed to be together (which stopped 2 years ago when there was a near deadly fight between them). Toby is the one standing up.
This is Toby in his favorite place:
And here is Bel:

too cute:)My name is Beth, Personal slave of Tetsu(shiba inu) Tikaani(siberian husky) and Safyre(cat), and ruler of Tom(Boyfriend). Living in scenic Suffolk County, Long Island
Aww! Very cute. So do they no longer get along at all? Or are they just not allowed to be together unsupervised?Casey with Bella (shiba) and Nola (shiba) hanging out in the mountains of Virginia.
They can never be together again, supervised or not. Bel attacked Toby with no warning and he nearly died. Even supervised I don't trust them, because she doesn't show any of the usual signs of reactive behavior....one moment there's a play bow and the next moment she is ripping him to pieces. So they are always separate now.My life revolves around two Shibas and an American Akita puppy
I just want to tell you that your babies are so cute and I really feel bad for you because of the situation. I read all of the posts and I think that this forum is truly a wonderful source of information. There are several members on here who are so well informed and we are lucky to be a part of this blog. I almost cried when I read about Toby and Bel and the fight. You are kind to keep both of them anyway, despite their issues.
Thanks lepercann....I love them both like crazy, and the fact is, once you get used to the "they-can-never-be-in-the-same-room" routine, it's not actually that hard.
And I do feel lucky to have found this forum....a lot of new info. already...My life revolves around two Shibas and an American Akita puppy
I put some pics of my newest addition up on the NK side, but thought I'd add a couple here too.
I just got my new American Akita puppy on Saturday. His name is Oskar and he is 8 weeks old, and already 15 pounds! My female Shiba, Bel, loves him already, and is just delighted to have a playmate. Toby HATES him. I don't know if it will get better. I introduced them with Toby loose in the house and Oskar in his crate, and Toby just growled and snarled. We tried Toby in his crate and Oskar loose....more of the same. All day yesterday Toby snarled and barked like a maniac at Oskar through the window (Toby was either outside or in the sunroom). He got particularly worked up when he saw Bel and Oskar playing.
anyway, I'm going to just keep them separated and if Toby calms down at any point, we may try taking both of them on a walk on leashes. But no rush--Oskar is such a baby he doesn't really get the leash thing yet.
Oskar is sweet, calm as can be, and not in least impressed by Toby! and he loves Bel!
He's really cute! Poor Toby is probably still upset about his earlier altercation with Bel and has decided to take the offense with the new little intruder. In time, if Toby is given nice, tasty treats when Oskar is around, he'll probably decide that Oskar is ok.
Said it over there, but congrats on bringing him home! I am sure that given some adjustment time, Toby and Oskar will be okay.Casey with Bella (shiba) and Nola (shiba) hanging out in the mountains of Virginia.
