My wife and I have been waiting for a shiba for the past 2 1/2 years, about a year and a half of research and looking for the right breeder, and about a year waiting for a dog. We're still waiting for our dog, but we've started to prepare ourselves by amassing products for a dog we don't yet have, and haven't met.

Just a kind reminder that the first year of puppy ownership will be your most costly. Aside from the pet toys, there's shots and the speutering. Though I can understand your need to satiate and reinforce your goal of getting your puppy. It's very, "The Secret".

Omg, I can't believe I'm saying this... "Would you like some eggs with that SPAM?" hahaha, that was soooo lame!!! I think I'm going to use it for now on though lol.
Anywho, I was like that when I first got Sasuke. For X-mas, it was basically a baby-shower... but for dogs. Now whenever I cannot chose between two products or toys, I HAVE to bring either Sasuke, Sushi, or Ninja along so they can pick out their own toys. They also picked out their Shampoos and various other items.-Joe: Owner of Ninja (Akita), , Sasuke (Shiba Inu), and Sushi (Taby).
So Katsu is the name your going with, and does that mean you'll be getting a girl. Would be kind of funny seeing a boy in pink though...Can't wait to see your pups in that pig costume, perfect for Halloween. My name is Beth, Personal slave of Tetsu(shiba inu) Tikaani(siberian husky) and Safyre(cat), and ruler of Tom(Boyfriend). nice stuff you got there for the pup! i cant imagine how excited you guys r! i myself loveeee to buy stuff for my 3 monsters, but it gets kinda costly out here :( i bought a simple harness for like 30 bucks the other daynikki (red princess shiba), sachi (black-tan talking shiba) & Odin (the devil in disguise Shikoku)
yeah next up is the crate, and deciding what kind of food to buy. I'm interested to see how the purple octopus holds up, it's supposed to be indestructable, destined to outlive everything on earth but cock a roaches and twinkees. and if you think this is spam wait till we get the dog, we're gonna need more than eggs with our spam.
What's "The Secret"?Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Check out Katsu's Blog, It's a Porkchop Life
yeah we're looking for a girl. But if it was a boy it's cool, he could rock it all Kanye/Cam'ron style. Pink is the new black, right? We got that pig costume at roosevelt field mall, my little cousin showed me the store and I had to get it, my wife loves pigs. I Have a funny feeling the shiba will not like it, but the two minutes it stays on should be hilarious.
anybody have any suggestions for dog toys they can recommend, I want to be well stocked so that the dog stays occupied, and doesn't try to make her own toys.Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Check out Katsu's Blog, It's a Porkchop Life
Its so funny because when we got Ryu, we got tons and tons of toys. He played with a few but most of them just stayed piled up in the toy basket. He mostly went after empty water bottles, pens and socks. :(
It wasn't until we got Roxy (more than a year later) that the toys finally got some use! :) She has some freaky shark teeth and can rip through those "indestructible" toys in 2 minutes. :X
My favorite toys are the "unstuffed" toys. They last a whole lot longer than the stuffed ones :) We have a raccoon that has been around forever and no fluff to clean up!!
We went to the breeder today, and found our dog. She's the sweetest little fur potato you'll ever meet, we're picking her up April 11, and we can't wait. Here's some spam from the day.
this is girl number 1, she's cute and loving but very fiesty
this is girl number 3 as she's now know, or Katsu Tonkatsu, or the Victorious Panko Breaded Porkchop. This is our future fur baby.
girl number 1 zonked out.

The breeder Alyssa has done an awesome job with getting the puppies used to touching. They have no complaints with you playing with their feet, their tails, ears, anything. We had Katsu on her back like a baby, and she was just soaking up the belly rubs with no complaints, only little kisses.Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Omigosh! I can see why you are so excited --- what an adorable puppy! Enjoy Katsu --- I'm sure you will be very impatient for April 11! Best of luck with the new little puppy!
thanks for all the nice comments. I was having a hard time deciding which pup I liked, unti I picked her up. She just gave me this look, and a kiss and I was done. The look reminded me alot of a Akita/Shepherd mix I had, he would just put his head on your leg and look at you, it's like he was saying "Love me" with his eyes.Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. cuteness! love the pic where they are waiting for mama :)nikki (red princess shiba), sachi (black-tan talking shiba) & Odin (the devil in disguise Shikoku)
Puppies!!!!!!!! Gosh, I can't look at pictures of puppies and not want another one...and another one...and....Dave, proudly owned by Lucy and Joey (Shiba Inu)
hey you already have two, save some cute shibas for the rest of us! The funny thing is I really wanted to get both available girls from the breeder, but I know I won't be able to handle two. I don't think I'd be able to give the propper attention and training they'd need. But now that I know for sure that we're getting her I really want another shiba already. Maybe in a year or so, I'd really like to rescue a boy.Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Check out Katsu's Blog, It's a Porkchop Life
Aww cute pictures! we bought that toy, the plastic nyla key ring. our shiba sophie destroyed it in about 3 weeks. just be careful and watch them with the nyla bones. they say they are not easily destroyed toys but it's not true. those puppy teeth are sharp and they can break pieces of those nyla bones off and swallow them. ohh i love the rangers jersey!!! where did you get that?? nhl.com? I would love to get a capitals jersey for my pups. (we are in VA so caps and hurricanes are the two closest teams)Kristen, Drew, Tess (the princess), Zeus (the baby), and Sophie (the monster aka princess in training)
i got it on ebay. it's only about 20 bucks. I think they make a caps one. I want to get a alternate logo phoenix coyotes jersey i thik the logo looks kinda like a shiba.Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Check out Katsu's Blog, It's a Porkchop Life
Congratulations on picking out your Katsu, she is such a doll. I can't wait to see her in person and give her some cuddles. When she's old enough, she can take a whack at Tetsu and see how he likes it. (Secretly, I think he's been wanting to play with someone his own size, as Tikaani likes to pick him up by his tail.)
Once again, congratulations!!My name is Beth, Personal slave of Tetsu(shiba inu) Tikaani(siberian husky) and Safyre(cat), and ruler of Tom(Boyfriend). Living in scenic Suffolk County, Long Island

20 bucks on ebay, hmm thats not too bad. I may have to check that out. although I know my pups will hate me if I dress them up... haha. :-)Kristen, Drew, Tess (the princess), Zeus (the baby), and Sophie (the monster aka princess in training)
I missed this... But congrats on meeting your new furbaby! She is adorable. Wow... April 11th is over a month away, how will you ever make it? :-PCasey with Bella (shiba) and Nola (shiba) hanging out in the mountains of Virginia.
we've waited a long time already. so another month isn't that bad. it's easier now that we met her, and know exactly when she's coming home.Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Check out Katsu's Blog, It's a Porkchop Life

OMG, those pics hella remind me of my miu miu when she was that small. Too bad I didn't really take much pics which I am regretting now. Congrat!! Katsu looks adorable.
Mike, your boy is going to have SUCH an attitude! (not that that is a bad thing!) He is something special.
And Katsu is just as sweet as she can be! But she also has that Shibatude, so watch out! :)Casey with Bella (shiba) and Nola (shiba) hanging out in the mountains of Virginia.
Yup, i can't believe its here but we're picking up our little furbaby tomorrow! i can't wait! i've been cleaning and dog proofing our house for the last week, making sure she can't get into any trouble. we'll be taking plenty of pictures so keep and eye out for fresh spam! i'm taking off from work next week and my husband is taking off from work the week after so she'll have two full weeks of us training her and getting her comfortable to her forever home. Wish us luck! We'll post some pics tomorrow night when we get back!Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Check out Katsu's Blog, It's a Porkchop Life
Yeah, I'm so excited that you'll be getting Katsu tomorrow (secretly I've been counting the days). Can't wait for the Spam...
PS. Talk about the meet up is going around. At the Soho shiba meet, about five people mentioned it. And a couple of people here and there with shibas talked about it as well. I'm wondering how many will actually come, but it's nice that there is talk about it.My name is Beth, Personal slave of Tetsu(shiba inu) Tikaani(siberian husky) and Safyre(cat), and ruler of Tom(Boyfriend). Katsu came home today. She was great on the car ride back from Jersey. She was a little scared but calmed down after a while. She didn't have any accidents in the car, but we did have to make a quick stop in the pouring rain for a potty break. The rain doesn't seem to bother her, neither does her harness. She's been scratching at her collar, but no shiba shake or scream. She had an accident in the house, but it was our fault because we should've let her go before she came in. But after we took her back outside she pee'd again. Right now she's playing in the living room, trying to decide between the 20 or so toys we got for her. Spam to follow soon.Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Check out Katsu's Blog, It's a Porkchop Life

after some potty breaks and some eating we all took a nap. we dressed her up in her pig outfit and her rangers jersey. we realized she doesn't mind her collar as long as she her rangers jersey on, otherwise she keeps trying to scratch at it. we also learned she can play fetch. i've got some spam and videos on the way.Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. She is super cute! First day home and you are already torturing her by dressing her up. Well, as long as you did not put her in a Mets jersey, we are fine. :-P
Congrats on bringing her home!!!Casey with Bella (shiba) and Nola (shiba) hanging out in the mountains of Virginia.
Barely home and you already torture her, jk. Love the pics, she is so cute in the piggy outfitMy name is Beth, Personal slave of Tetsu(shiba inu) Tikaani(siberian husky) and Safyre(cat), and ruler of Tom(Boyfriend). Living in scenic Suffolk County, Long Island
I think Alyssa taught them how to play. Katsu did good her first night, only a little crying before bed. She didn't have any accidents and went to the bathroom outside this morning.Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Check out Katsu's Blog, It's a Porkchop Life

Cuter than cute!!!!"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."
here's some pics from today. we visited some family, and by the end of the day Katsu was pooped. However she just had another burst of energy and started doing some zoomies around the living room. She's also hunting for last nights chinese food that fell on the carpet.

she's been really good, it's only been 2 1/2 days so we're waiting for something to happen. it's weird though, she really doesn't protest the clothes. her collar bothers her more than anything else.Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Check out Katsu's Blog, It's a Porkchop Life
Katsu had her first vet visit since she came home. The vet said she's in great health, and her poop was worm free. She got a shot today and didn't even flinch or yelp. After the vet we stopped at the store to get some Grizzly Salmon Oil for her food, a toy, and some new treats. She really isn't into the wellness just for puppy treats we had gotten her, and seems to like these better.
She also had her first run in with our vacuum. She was pretty good until it got closer, then she tried to jump up on the couch.
So far so good otherwise. She continues to be an unreasonably good puppy, and is great with everyone she meets. She even did some advertising for this forum. A girl at the pet store was asking about shibas, so we told her do your research, buy from a reputable breeder, and check out Nihonken.org. She's also doing much better in the car and with steps, both up and down.Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Check out Katsu's Blog, It's a Porkchop Life
ok so i take Katsu for a walk this morning and as she's walking around i notice shes got "a turtle head" poking out of her butt. all the sudeen she realizes whats happening and proceeds to spin like crazy until the little poop nugget goes flying and she went running in the other direction. i think the little nugget scared her or i scared her by laughing so hard!
Katsu also got a little treat today - we picked up some sashimi and Joe fed it to her with chopsticks here's some pics and a video

I was gonna get Sashimi for Sake tonight as a reward for being such a good girl in puppy class! I wonder how she would do with chopsticks?!?! LOL.Kristin with Miso and Sake (Shibas) and Cookie (Shiba Cat). Hanover, MA Crazy World of Shiba Inu Blog
She is so adorable. Especially when she is being fed from chopsticks. :)Casey with Bella (shiba) and Nola (shiba) hanging out in the mountains of Virginia.
yea she's a little spoiled i guess. we cant help it though, she's been so wonderful since we got her. the chopsticks didnt even bother her.Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Check out Katsu's Blog, It's a Porkchop Life
so when its bed time we put Katsu in her crate which is in the living room and we go into the bedroom. she will cry and scream and howl for about 5 minutes then give up and go to bed. well last night when we put her in her crate i stayed there for a minute and sang to her and she layed right down and fell asleep. when i got up and went inside she didnt make a peep. anybody else ever try singing to their dog? if you have a doggy that cries in his/her crate try singing, it really worked!Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Check out Katsu's Blog, It's a Porkchop Life
I sing to Miso and Sake a lot actually. When I am in the kitchen I am usually singing and they just lay on the floor relaxing.Kristin with Miso and Sake (Shibas) and Cookie (Shiba Cat). Hanover, MA Crazy World of Shiba Inu Blog
Generally I would NOT eat off chopsticks that I am feeding a puppy with. Only because most of the time some low grade parasites are prevalent in puppies even if you have a negative lab culture from the vet or have recently wormed. For example: Giardia is on organism that is not species specific, meaning it can be transferred directly to humans. You never know, dogs can pick up parasites at anytime. Even if the dog has no symptoms it can at times pass an organism to others who are outside the normal host chain of the parasite. Tapes are another example since eggs are coughed back up. You most likely will be fine given where you Shiba has been purchased. However, I thought I would mention it in any case.
we didnt eat any of the sashimi - it was all for her. we went to the store last night and bought a big thing of salmon sashimi for her and she got it all and then the chopsticks were thrown out - puppy kisses is one thing but i wouldnt eat off of the same thing she does. but thanks for the info i didnt know that dogs can transfer parasites to humans.Joe & Dawn ruled by our shibas *Katsu* and *Tanuki*. Check out Katsu's Blog, It's a Porkchop Life
See that's were I would have a problem (LOL) ..... I love Sashimi..... so I assumed that you were getting it for yourselves too. Good idea though for your pup if you can get it at a good price. It is expensive usually.
Today's the first meetup on the island. We're keeping Katsu home since she doesn't have all her shots. We'd love her to meet someother shibas, but we're not going to chance her health. Plus it'll be a good chance for her to spend some midday time in her crate so she can get used to it. Beth will be there with tetsu and tikaani, and we're going to bring our camera so get ready for some meetup spam later today.
